Leonard Cohen

In Deutschland ist L. Cohen vor allem als Sänger mit Hits wie "Susanne" (1968), oder "First, We Take Manhatten ..." (1988) bekannt geworden. Weniger bekannt ist hierzulande allerdings, das Cohen schon vor der Veröffentlichung seiner ersten Schallplatte 1968 (Songs of Leonard Cohen) drei Gedichtbände und zwei Romane veröffentlicht hatte:
Let Us Compare Mythologies (1956),
The Spice Box of earth (1961)
Flowers for Hitler (1964)
The Favorite Game (1963)
Beuatiful Loosers (1966)
Dabei steht sein literarischens Schaffen - weitere Gedichtbände, folgten-
gleichberechtigt neben dem als Songwriter.
Neben oft ungewöhnlichen Liebesgedichten
setzt sich Cohen auch mit der
jüdische Religion, (-Er wurde 1934 als Sohn jüdischer Eltern in Montreal geboren-) und
damit zusammenhängend, auch mit den Verbrechen in Nazi Deutschland auseinander.
Einen schönen Einblich in die Gedichte und Liedtexte von L.Cohen beitet die Sammlung
"Stranger Music - Selected Poems and Songs"
die 1994 bei Vintage Books NY erschienen ist. Aus dieser Ausgabe sind auch die
folgenden drei Gedichte entnommen.
Interessant ist vielleicht noch, das 1970 eine kritische Betrachtung des Werkes von
Cohen durch Michael Ondaatje erschienen ist.
